Phasing

Although no finds were recovered from the slot, and it was cut by both enclosures 012AC09502 and 012AC07211, if it is assumed that this is part of an earlier phase of the enclosure system, then it can be phased to the Anglian or Middle Saxon periods.

Discussion

A slot aligned north-west/south-east at the intersection of  enclosure ditches 012AC09502 and 012AC07211, both of which were both shown in section to have cut the slot. The fill was a sandy loam (Munsell 120YR 4/3). No finds were excavated using the context number 012AC00167 which was issued only after the excavation of the slot. It is probable that this slot formed an earlier phase of the enclosure given its alignment parallel with both 012AC07211 and 012AC00035, although the original extent was undefined due to the truncation by later ditches.
